Happy Friday, everyone! Don’t you just love when July 4th falls on a Friday or Monday?! I’m making my annual trip to Jersey Shore this weekend, a tradition that started around six years ago. Of course, I’ll be barbecuing tomorrow! I can’t wait to eat burgers, hot dogs and all the fixings.
That got me thinking: where can you find the best barbecue food at Walt Disney World?
Mickey’s Backyard BBQ
The name says it all, right? Mickey’s hosting a backyard barbecue and you and your favorite characters are invited! Located at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, this dining experience features an all-you-care-to-enjoy barbecue spread, along with dancing and live music.
The buffet includes all the barbecue staples: chicken, ribs, burgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese and an assortment of side salads. While the dinner event is outdoors, it is a covered pavilion—because if Mickey’s barbecues are anything like my family’s barbecues, there’s always a chance of rain!
You don’t have to go far to find our next great barbecue spot. Located in the Wilderness Lodge, Whispering Canyon serves up an assortment of smoked meats—with attitude. The servers will treat you like family—like a fun-poking, brash aunt or uncle!
Whispering Canyon offers guests the option to order off the menu or opt for the all-you-care-to-enjoy skillet. The skillet includes pulled pork, roasted chicken, smoked ribs, beef brisket and sausage, served with corn on the cob, vegetables, baked beans and mashed potatoes. It’s incredibly filling, so make sure you save room for dessert. My personal favorite is the apple-caramel pie!
Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue
There’s a recurring theme here: if you want good barbecue, head over to Fort Wilderness. As one of the more popular restaurants at Disney, the dinner features buckets of food and plenty of entertainment. The dinner event is known for its fried chicken and cornbread. It’s an incredibly difficult ADR to get and should be at the top of your list when making reservations!
Flame Tree BBQ
This colorful eatery, located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, is serving up some serious BBQ eats! What I love most about this spot is that everything is so fresh. While the restaurant doesn’t exactly stand out, you’ll be drawn in by the smell of fresh smoked meats.
As a counter service, it’s a wonderful value on the Disney Dining Plan. The full slab of ribs, while messy, is a huge value at $19.99! Another great value is the sampler, which is a huge plate of ribs, chicken and pulled pork, along with their most popular sides. Flame Tree BBQ is a must-do if you’re in Animal Kingdom—it’s worth the trip even if you’re not in the park!
