Here’s the current forecast for Hurricane Matthew:
Matthew is currently a CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE now with max sustained winds back up to 140 mph.
The storm continues to track right for Florida, so please make your last minute preparations! This storm should not be taken lightly. This portion of the east coast of Florida has never seen a major hurricane make a direct landfall, so even if you think you can ride it out, better chances for you if you evacuate immediately!
This storm is obviously a very serious matter and Orlando theme parks are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of guests and employees.
Disney Parks is closing their theme parks, water parks, shopping district, golf courses and sports complex as of 5pm, today, Thursday, October 6th. All of these locations will remain closed throughout Friday, although operations are expected to resume on Saturday, October 8th. This means that, unfortunately, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party has been canceled for tonight and tomorrow night. This is unconfirmed by Disney at this time.
Here’s a list of resorts currently under evacuation at Walt Disney World:
- Fort Wilderness Campgrounds
- The Bungalows at Polynesian Village
- The Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs
These guests have been moved to alternate accommodations by Disney as a security measure. Guests who are able to leave the area are being “encouraged to do so.”
Obviously a scary time down at Walt Disney World. It comes at an unfortunate time, with so many people heading down for Columbus Day Weekend. With the holiday, Food and Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, this weekend has become especially popular.
As someone who was directly affected by Hurricane Sandy, I’d recommend taking this storm very, very seriously. It’s unfortunate what’s unfolded with this hurricane and it stinks that so many people’s vacations will be affected, but I’d urge everyone to exercise caution. If there’s one company I trust to do good by its customers during this time, it’s Disney. Those in Florida or the Orlando area are in my prayers. Please stay safe. I’ll continue to update as more news and updates are released.
